Five Brainworms — August 24, 2017

These are five random things that have shoved themselves to the front of my brain this week. Make of it what you will.

Portugal. The country.

Two families in my circle took vacations to Portugal this year. And it keeps popping up in conversation for various reasons. Did the Portuguese tourism board start a big campaign or something? It looks too beautiful to ignore.

Weird Sleeves

If you’re going to do one thing to modernize your wardrobe this season, get weird sleeves. Doesn’t matter if they’re giant, ruffled, puffy, slashed…just add some interest to your arm area and you’re good. Just keep the focus on the arms; you don’t want to look like Jerry Seinfeld in his pirate shirt.

Anti-Logo

There’s a recurrent theme in my Gen Z kids’ shopping commentary. They don’t want logos on stuff. The antithesis of my 80’s kid acquisitiveness, where I wanted crocodiles on everything I could find. This generation wants to be themselves, and thinks polo ponies on your chest is bizarre.

Portugal.The Man.

I am fully obsessed with this band right now. Their 60’s sounding song “Feel It Still” has rolled around on TV and commercials, and when I went to listen to the whole album, it rocked my world. “Modern Jesus” is my fave.

It started with my family (after we abandoned Kik a couple of years ago), and now seems to be spreading far and wide. It’s a fast as lightning, fun to use, and completely secure messaging app. If I could get all of my friends on it, I’d abandon Apple Messages completely.
