Tips for Telegram on iPhone

1. Share a link, not your number

The ease of using a personal number as a means of interacting with other people also poses risks, one of which is privacy. After all, with the number exposed we can be targets of intrusive advertising, calls or inconvenient messages. To solve this, Telegram makes it possible to create a custom link. To contact you, just someone accesses the link through the browser and quickly find you in the messenger. The process is simple and guarantees the confidentiality of your number.

To create a link on Telegram and share it with others on Telegram, just go to “Settings” > “Edit” > “Username”. Choose the name you want and copy the link that appears in blue below the explanatory text. Then send it to people who want to start a chat with you

2. Create folders for chats

With the time of using messengers, it is natural to create a group for different purposes, be it one about football, work, college friends, among others. The problem is that the accumulation of chats with people, groups and channels can create a mess of information, take away the focus of what you need and other inconveniences. With that in mind, Telegram created the feature of organizing chats by folders. In other words, you can organize your conversations and channels into specific topics and then quickly refer back to them.

Organize your Telegram chats by going to “Settings” > “Chat Folders” > “Create New Folder”. In this section, enter the name you want for the folder, include conversations with people, groups and/or channels, and finally, chats that you don’t want to receive notifications for.

3. Use a secret chat

Telegram ensures the secrecy of your conversations by end-to-end encryption through the secret chat feature. Through it, the messenger guarantees that no information is registered on its servers, the only people who can access them are you and the other person in the chat. You can also set a temporary deadline for messages you send in the conversation by enabling the self-destruct feature.

To open a secret chat, open a conversation, go to “Edit” > “Three dots” > “Start in Secret Chat” > “Start”. Activate the self-destruct option by tapping the timer icon in the message box. The message’s destruction time will start counting from the moment it is viewed by the recipient.

4. Take advantage of bot features

Bots are one of Telegram’s most prominent features. You can perform various tasks that can be very useful for everyday life, such as creating fake emails – to get rid of spam -, quickly checking the meaning of words, chatting in English, searching for gifs, playing in multiplayer, among others. other possibilities. For the simplest functions, just type “@” (without quotes) with an action you want, for example, @vid (to search for videos), @gif (to look up gifs) or @wiki (to quickly access information).

5. Edit messages

If you’ve sent a message and noticed a grotesque typo, or wish you had used other words to express yourself better, you don’t have to delete it and type all the text again. Telegram offers a feature for you to edit your messages quickly and notifies other users when it has been modified.

To do this, just press and hold the message you want to rewrite, tap “Edit”, make the corrections and, finally, send it again.

6. Add a chat to a channel

It is very common to create channels on Telegram as a means of publicizing services and resources for users who are invited by a link or are interested in the topic and find the channel through the search. While it is intended that only the administrator sends messages, it may be that you want to maintain greater interaction with users and allow them to comment in an organized way.

Telegram has integrated a native feature to insert channel comments in each message sent by the admin, before it was only possible to do it by a bot. If you are interested in activating it, open your channel (you must be an admin), tap on the top tab where the name is, go to “Edit” > “Conversations” > “Create Group”. Finally, choose the name and tap “Create” or choose a group you’ve created before. Okay, now Telegram will automatically open a comment box on your channel.

7. Store files in the cloud

This tip is quite simple and useful for anyone who needs to store iPhone files, make a simple backup and/or share files between their smartphone and computer. Telegram provides the user with a chat called “Saved Messages”, and you can feel free to save messages, texts, media files and others.

It is allowed to send up to 2 GB per file on Telegram and there is no space limit. If you want to better organize your file uploads, just create private channels and organize them in folder. Very practical, isn’t it?

8. Lock the app by password and biometrics

Finally, if you want to keep all information safe and ensure access only to you, or with your authorization, just lock the application with a password and biometrics. For that, go to “Settings” > “Privacy & Security” > “Password & Face ID/Touch ID” > “Enable Password”. Then tap the “Unlock with Face ID/Touch ID” option to use your biometrics.
