Which is the Best Messaging Application in 2022?

If your choice of encrypted messaging app is a twist between Signal, Telegram, and Whatsapp, then do not think much and just go for Signal. This is not about the application which has cuter features, more bells, and whistles or is easier to use; it is all about privacy. And if you are all about privacy, then nothing can beat Signal.

Obviously, we all know what happened on January 7. Elon Musk tweeted about stopping using Whatsapp instead start using Signal. Twitter’s then CEO retweeted Elon Musk’s tweet. It was a perfect storm and since then the users of Signal and Telegram have got new users by tens of millions.

The collision also irradiated security and privacy analysis of messaging applications more widely. With the number of downloads differentiating, there are some common things as well! All of them are on the Play Store or App Store. The platform supports cross-platform messaging, also has group chat, offers multi-factor authentication, and can also be used to share images, videos, and even documents. The encryption for texting, voice and video calls is also provided.

Signal, Telegram, and Whatsapp use end-to-end encryption in some parts of their applications. This implies that if any third party seizes your texts, then they should be unreadable and confused. It also implies that the same message can not be seen by the employees of the company at the time of your ongoing communication with another user. This anticipates law enforcement, phone carriers, and other barging commodities from being able to read the conversations even when they block them.

The difference between the terms and policies of Signal, Telegram, and Whastapp is not much. But, here is what you should know about each of them.

Signal

Signal is a one-tap install application that you can find on Google’s Play Store and Apple’s App Store. It is much similar to normal messaging applications. It is an open-source application offered free of charge by the nonprofit Signal Foundation and is used by high-profile icons like Edward Snowden.

The main function of Signal is to keep the communication going on between any two individuals or groups via messages, voice messages, images, and even videos. You just have to verify yourselves by entering your mobile number and verifying other user’s identities.

And when I especially talk about Privacy, it is hard to win from Signal. Moreover, it also provides you with screen privacy options, which include locks for specific apps, a pop-up of blank notifications, face-blurring tools, and even disappearing messages.

Pros of Signal

  1. You just need your mobile number
  2. No ads
  3. Wholly Open Source

Telegram

Telegram is somewhere in the between of the privacy scale, and it is different from other messaging applications due to its expenditure to make a social-network style surrounding. Although it does not collect as much data as Whatsapp, it also does not provide encrypted group calls, nor as much privacy and company transparency as Signal. Data collected by

IP Address is also collected by Telegram, something which is not done by Signal. The one-to-one messaging application Signal is not encrypted by default. But, rather you have to switch it on from the app’s settings. Telegram has many branches. Around 42 million IDs and phone numbers were brought out in March 2020, which was considered as the actions taken by Iranian Government Officials. Not only this, there were many problems that were brought up by Telegram. But the recent one was the problem due to its GPS System which made people question its privacy-related issues.

Pros of Telegram

  1. Data related to you like your Phone Number, Name, Contacts, and even User ID.
  2. Forthcoming Ad Platform
  3. Open- Source but Partially

Whatsapp

There is a very clear difference between Security and Privacy. Security is all about saving your data from prohibited access. On the other hand, privacy is about saving your IDENTITY either way or who has the access to the data.

If I talk about security, then Whatsapp is the same as Signal, and the encryption is saved. But the encryption part of Whatsapp is open-source, and we are being asked to trust Whatsapp more than Signal. The actual application of Whatsapp and even other manufacturing was also hacked, in a similar way Telegram was hacked.

Pros of Whatsapp

  1. Data related to you
  2. Business Versions available for free
  3. Not an open-source

Conclusion

So, which application is more secure? Is it Whatsapp, Telegram, or Signal? If I talk about myself personally, everyone would have different answers in their perspective. As it is said, “Every coin has two phases.” In the same way, every application has two phases. If they have pros then they also have cons.

Think, which application is most preferable for you and choose wisely! And also tell us your opinion in the Comment Section.
